At Southern Cross Electrical Engineering we consider the safety and health of our employees to be of paramount importance. In an effort to achieve zero harm and industry best practice, SCEE has developed and implemented a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Management System, externally audited and accredited under AS4801. Within this system, SCEE has developed a systematic approach to employee safety and has a comprehensive OHSMS manual in conjunction with a full set of policies, procedures and work instructions covering all aspects of health and safety. The application of the system has ensured the company has achieved excellent results and we are proud of our outstanding health and safety performance record. SCEE currently has a record of almost 3 million man hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) - a testimony to the effectiveness of our approach to occupational health and safety. This and other health and safety achievements have been recognised by NECA in various awards, including the prestigious National Winner Award for the OHS category in 2009 and State Winner for OHS in 2010. As part of our overall health and safety strategy, SCEE designs site specific Safety Management Plans for each project, which incorporate legislative and client requirements, along with our own best practice approach to hazard identification and risk management. Each year SCEE reviews its OHS performance and identifies objectives and targets for the upcoming year to ensure continuous improvement. All employees are required to undergo stringent health and safety inductions and training prior to commencing work on a new project, and there are various communication and consultation methods utilised to ensure there is ongoing risk management on site. These include toolbox talks, safety awareness communications, pre-start meetings and Health & Safety Committee meetings. On-site safety audits are also conducted regularly by supervisors and OHS professionals to ensure the consistent and systematic approach to safety is being implemented throughout the life of the project.
SCEE is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment and to incident prevention for employees, subcontractors and visitors for all work places across our organisation. |
